Goodbye, Bread Cat
When I wrote about the illness of our bread-loving cat last summer, I didn’t know how much longer she would be with us. As it turned out, Stripes made quite a remarkable recovery and was almost her old self for many months — until a few weeks ago, when her chronically failing kidneys started making her sick again. This time, she didn’t bounce back, and she died today.
Farewell, my little friend. I didn’t always like you, but in the end I loved you. Wherever you are, I hope you’re dining sumptuously on mice, tuna, and a nice crusty loaf of sourdough.

I am sorry about the cat. I always feel sad when my pets die. She was so special, liking sourdough.

Ohhhh! I am so sorry to hear. That is an adorable picture of her. Pets can really wiggle their way into our hearts. Remember the good times.

Sorry Susan. I do understand the ‘didn’t always like you but came to love you.’ That’s just how I felt about our last cat. Beautiful photo.

Aw, I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. It’s really hard to lose a cat - they’re such wonderful creatures. I love the photo.

Oh, I’m so sorry to hear about your cat. She was very beautiful. I have a bread-loving cat also. If I leave a loaf unattended for just a minute, I’ll find a hole in it. He also has been having kidney problems lately. I wonder if it causes some deficiency that makes them crave carbs.

I am very sorry to hear about your cat. That’s a nice photo of her — you’ve got to admire her good taste!

I am so, so sorry to hear about your loss, Susan. My cat also died from kidney failure several years ago. Pet are so special.

Susan, my heart goes out to you; we had a similar thing happen last fall, and I lost the Best Dog in the World the fall before that, so I know somewhat how you’re feeling.

I’m so sorry to hear about your cat, they belong part of the family. My cat also died a few months ago and my neighbor gave me a kitty and now she is the happiness of the house.

So sorry about your cat. I don’t have a pet but I can understand the sadness people have when theirs die.
Marjoke May 16 2008 at 09:40 am 11
susan, I do understand your sadness. Our cat had to be euthanysed last winter also because of kidneyfailure. Although I still mis her, I’m also enjoying our new cat Puk who is terribly in love with our dog, Jente.

We went through the exact same thing a few years ago. Deciding not to try to treat it anymore was heartbreaking but in the end the right decision. I’m sorry for your loss.

i’m so sorry to hear about stripes! i never knew about stripes and her bread lovin’ habit until now. but she sounds like a very sweet cat who probably loved you even more than you knew. rest assured she knew how much you did love her in the end, and i’m sure she’s happily getting into all sorts of kitty trouble wherever she is now.

My sympathies Susan, as you know I lost my Kika after 12 years, now we have a new kid, Thurston! Get another cat soon, they need love!

Dear Susan, I’m so sorry to hear this, I was so amazed when I read your entry about how Stripes devoured your lovely bread and I hoped she’d get better.

My sympathy on losing your cat, it’s harder when they have become an old friend - at least he had a reprieve to enjoy your bread for several more months.
Do you have any advice on scales? I notice that you weigh ingredients to 1 gram accuracy. My scale weighs in 5 gram increments & I was thinking of replacing it. Patsy

Sorry for your loss. My family and I are ‘cat people’ too and we hate to see such cherished members of the family pass on.
My sympathies…

I just read this, and I’m so sorry. The loss of a pet can be so very hard. I love your story about her bread eating, and like you, I think she is in a happier place, loaded with freshly baked sourdough.
